MAXXI Museum: Enjoy the Art of Our Time

Dive into the world of contemporary art at Rome’s National Museum of 21st Century Arts
MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts, hosts thought-provoking and colorful exhibitions from the modern art world. Designed by the late controversial architect Zaha Hadid, MAXXI is an unconventional space both inside and out. This striking building is composed of giant intersecting concrete segments that seem severe from the outside, but inside create flowing pathways that gently transport the visitor through this modern, open-plan space.
It’s also the first Italian national institution that promotes creativity, unites minds and provides inspiration. With extraordinary events and a rich collection of contemporary art, MAXXI’s mission is to help the observer understand and enjoy the art of our time.
Art & architecture exhibitions, workshops, conferences & educational projects

Founded in 1998 by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the museum offers a panoramic overview of contemporary art through art and architecture exhibitions, workshops, conferences and educational projects. Whether it’s showing you something you’ve never seen before or showing you how to see something familiar with a different perspective, MAXXI is always an eye and mind-opening experience every person must experience.
The museum is represented by MAXXI Architettura and MAXXI Arte sections. Architecture collections comprise all those artefacts and documents that display the architecture through its evolutionary processes: from the idea birth to its physical realisation within a material and cultural context. The collection has more than 60,000 design drawings, 75,000 photographs and numerous models, letters and documents, sculptures, books and periodicals which help to create a full vision of Italian contemporary architecture. Carlo Scarpa, Pier Luigi Nervi, Enrico Del Debbie, Paolo Soleri, Alessandro Anselmi, Giancarlo de Carlo, Carlo Aymonino, Superstudio are just a few of the Italian protagonists features in the collections.
After joining to Google Art project, MAXXI Architettura made possible for visitors to navigate and explore 55 architectural works and to have virtual tours of the architecture of Zaha Hadid with the comprehensive information about them online.
With a rich program of exhibitions and events, MAXXI has both a permanent and temporary exhibitions.
